[opensuse] Automatic emptying caches

On my system Iran out of space and was looking at the cause. Tmp was one of the culprits so I instructed the system via the /etc/sysconfig Editor to regularly empty the /tmp and /var/tmp. Looking further I discovered a lot of caches full with older rpm's. Most of these made by zypper. I can of course remove these caches manual but thought that it should also be possible with the above editor. Searched for it without success. Did I overlook something? Should I look into zypper for a cleaning of the caches? -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.0.0-10-desktop LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.7.00 (4.7.0) 13:46pm up 2 days 23:49, 2 users, load average: 3.07, 1.99, 1.29 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

yes, 'man zypper' explains: clean (cc) [options] [alias|name|#|URI] ... Clean the local caches for all known or specified repositories. By default, only caches of downloaded packages are cleaned. -m, --metadata Clean repository metadata cache instead of package cache. -M, --raw-metadata Clean repository raw metadata cache instead of package cache. -a, --all Clean both repository metadata and package caches. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Phani, was still concentrating on yast as I thought it the most logical place to have something like that. -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.0.0-10-desktop LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.7.00 (4.7.0) 16:12pm up 1:53, 2 users, load average: 0.98, 0.73, 0.50 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

quite possibly yast's software management thing has that functionality too; but i use zypper mostly, so i'm more familiar with that. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can configure /tmp to be cleared out of files more than a specified age and also on reboot. In the Yast sysconfig editor, under System>Cron, you'll see 6 items you can change regarding clearing /tmp. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
