[SuSE Linux] Window Managers?
I was just wondering what people thought of the different WM's out there. Personally, I find the WindowMaker environment "niftiest". I like the way it uses themes, and its ease of use to set up, and manipulate.... Very nice. I also enjoy the fact that its one of the least memory intestive that I've found (hell, in comparison, it makes fvwm2 look like trying to run windows 98 on a 386!) (and by no way was that a microslop endorsment). I just wanted to know what the other window managers offered, and what the pro's / con's of switching may be..... You should try wterm as well nice rxvt-type term with a small memory footprint. I believe it is the official term for windowmaker, but not sure so don't quote me. -- Aduanne Carter Drow@Blazenet.net / TrueDrow@Netscape.net -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Yes, let's start a WM war :) I personally prefer IceWM, because of it's simplicity, speed and low memory profile. In addition to that, it has a nice look and feel and is easy to configure... Furthermore, I am the current maintainer of that package :^) Bye, LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 <A HREF="http://www.suse.de/~grimmer</A">http://www.suse.de/~grimmer</A> 90443 Nuernberg, Germany -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Forgive me if I am wrong, I think ICE is the one that has OS/2 like themes, and I preferedd the look and feel of that window manager all over the rest, but had trouble running some applications with that one. I am currently using WindowMaker because it is easy to set up and use, but I don't like the way it handles the window sizes etc., I run at 640x480 and some windows just are not right. For example in Netscape preferences, under applications there is no "OK" button, even if I maximise the screen- however in fvwm95 I can move the screen up to get to the "OK" button. However, I still can't set up the colors correctly in fvwm95, I did set root background to lightblue, but never figured out how to set red-green-blue values. Is CDE any better? I would not mind purchasing a commercial window manager if if was easy to use and worked well. joe ---------------------------------- E-Mail: jljr@globalfrontiers.com Date: 04-May-99 Time: 05:43:35 This message was sent by XFMail ---------------------------------- -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
