/etc/mtab & ALSA errors in using Kraxel 2.6 kernel
There are several points I wish to raise. After installing a sufficient numbe of RPMs from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/kraxel/... I. When I reboot, I often get an error somewhere in the /etc/mtab corruption. It scares me to death because the system boots up with file systems in read-only mode. The corruption tends to clear up itself, when I reboot it. It seems somewhat random. I am very concerned with this error. Please help. 2. I cannot understand the ALSA parameter name change in /etc/modprobe.conf. My card is supposed to use either intel8x0 or i810audio. I am not sure which one. The portion of /etc/modprobe is cut and pasted below. So. what should I do? alias char-major-116-* snd alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 options sb io=0x220 irq=7 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330 options cipcb cipe_debug=0 options sonypi minor=250 options vtx quiet=1 options isa-pnp isapnp_reset=0 options sisfb mem=12288 mode=none options agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1 options snd-intel8x0 ac97_clock=0 enable=1 index=0 options snd cards_limit=1 major=116 3. There are some complaints about MOUSEDEV. 4. Several daemons are not started. Among them, I am concerned with "portmap" The reason for my venture actually started because It was not quite successful with my wireless card with 2.4.2x kernels. It was detected, assigned a dynamic IP. But I was not able to start DHCP correctly. Has anyone succeeded in pcmcia and wireless cardbus and DHCP to a WEP enabled wireless router? Thanks a lot. Hugh

What filesystem are you using, and which version kernel? Do you have sysfs in your fstab?
2. I cannot understand the ALSA parameter name change in /etc/modprobe.conf.
You can find out the options for a particular module via modinfo <module name>.
The portion of /etc/modprobe is cut and pasted below. So. what should I do?
alias char-major-116-* snd alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
This is your sound card module, snd-intel8x0
options snd-intel8x0 ac97_clock=0 enable=1 index=0
This is the options you presently have. They look correct for the version of Alsa 9in the newer kernels. Pre .9.3 IIRC used a snd prefix for the optoins, i.e. snd_index=0
options snd cards_limit=1 major=116
3. There are some complaints about MOUSEDEV.
No idea.
4. Several daemons are not started. Among them, I am concerned with "portmap"
