[opensuse] Smart kernel replacement
Hello Been using smart for quite awhile now. Works great except for one thing. When there is a kernel update smart replaces it. Don't want that. I want the multiple kernels. I've brought up this and another issue on the labix list in the past and never get any answers. I set a flag for "lock" on the kernel and I also set a flag for "multi-version" on the kernel. Seems that smart is ignoring that and only the new kernel is found in /boot. Am I not doing this correctly? I have four different kernels in /usr/src if that means anything, including the previous and newly updated one. Hi Bob, It is not a Smart problem. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=290959 For now you have to move all files out installation script sight and than put back after "update". Don't forget /lib/modules and kernel source directory. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As you can see, from the old message above, back in July there was this problem of updating a kernel and instead of installing the new one, it replaced it.(lock & multiversion flags were set) Rajko pointed out that it was not a problem with Smart or Yast and was a bug. Marcus even commented on the bug. Rajko also explained the workaround as per above but I could not find the installation script so I just shrugged my shoulders and thought I would wait for the next upgrade to the kernel. After all, it was done. The new kernel replaced the old one. No going back. Welllll... I guess it's not fixed. Same thing happened again tonight when I upgraded to 49.1. I really don't like that. Over the years I have always had the old and new kernels side by side in case something was wrong with the new kernel. Thankfully 49.1 was OK and my machine booted to the new kernel. I guess I am old-fashioned with a back-up to whatever I do. Hopefully in the future I don't have to go on-line and get a kernel and install it with RPM like I used to have to do. Has to be a lot of people on this list that have a problem with these kinds of things. Go vote for that bug !!! Bob S. BTW kernel-source and doc are not upgraded also. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It is about idea what to do, messed scripts etc. There is another bug about scripts. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304125 The correction is easy, but I do not like removed old kernel and libraries to, so I'm thinking how to bypass embedded scripts with my own that will do what I want to. The kernel update rpm is anyway simple package with few files. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
