You can also install windows on a virtual machine using the VirtualBox software and run iTunes from there.

Hi, I'm in trouble, I somehow messed up my daughters ipod system with gtkpod and it now says it needs restoring with itunes. Does anyone know of a linux app that repairs ipods. Thanks Dave Plater
JFYI iTunes should work under wine. I am not sure which version of iTunes or which version of wine though.

Thanks Gabriel, I've got the usb working in vbox, but XP don't pick up. Usb is in the device manager now but doesn't pick up anything. Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hey Dave, Dis you marked your VM to enable USB support? Also, did you tried different usb ports? Do you have another usb device that you could test and see if the usb is working? If you plug iPod does it show the new hardware detected? I really don't know what happened there, VBox always worked for my external harddisks and mp3 players. If this does not work I would suggest you find someone with a win box and ask to use iTunes for a moment. regards, Gabriel 2008/1/9, Dave Plater <dave.plater@yahoo.co.uk>:

Linux picks up usb but it doesn't get through to windows. The usb subsystem was detected in xp after I sorted out vbox but it won't even

Well, I don't own an iPod myself, so I'm not the right person for the iPod part. 2008/1/9, Dave Plater <dave.plater@yahoo.co.uk>:

I tried the root thing to no avail but if I had read the usb section in help a little better, I would have tried the filters. In the usb settings I clicked on add filter and noticed the ipod and my mouse. I clicked on the ipod and saw all its info present. After enabling the filter I started XP and there was the ipod. Ok now all I have to do is get the ipod software to work in XP, it reminds me of the days of using suse 7.4. Thanks to everyone for their help. Maybe the filter thing should be added to http://en.opensuse.org/VirtualBox_USB_Support .
