Wot is going on?! This thread made me look at Gimp and I found that the latest Gimp - version 2.8.6 - was released in June of this year but oS still only has 2.8.2 available from the repo. Why so? Why so? Why do you ask? That has been the SUSE policy since start of time.
BTW, v2.8.6 fixes the problem with saving vs exporting - from the quick read of the Changes I just read. Did you search? It is where it should be:
<http://software.opensuse.org/package/gimp> I am talking here about the LATEST and released version of Gimp which is 2.8.6 and not 2.8.2 which is already installed in 12.3.
Did you try to click "Show other versions"?
Yes. Only 2.8.2 is shown - at least that was all a couple of days ago. BUT, I am now using 13.1 and started Gimp for the first time. In 13.1 Gimp is version 2.8.6 - the latest release from gimp.org. So why isn't it in 12.3? Don't know..... Yes I did and it shows that the Download will download version 2.8.2. Did you give me the correct URL? GNOME:Apps 2.8.6
I don't use Gnome and therefore have no need for any Gnome repos - which means that the idea of selecting this repo wouldn't enter the mind of any KDE user :-) .
multimedia:photo 2.8.6
Is this a repo? Cannot see anywhere. You ARE using openSUSE? :-)
<http://software.opensuse.org/package/gimp>
12.3, show other versions, then show unstable packages.
But that is "cheating" in a way! It's definitely there: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/photo/openSUSE_12.3/

"unstable" seems to be a bad description, and in this case is nothing to do with "Factory"... Dx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

OK I now see what Carlos and you are talking about. The repos which *I* always think about are those which are shown in YaST's list of repositories including those under the Community heading. The repos shown in the URL Carlos provided, and you are talking about, don't appear in YaST. Those are the most popular repos, but there are many more. Some do have "factory" in their names. Some have "home" - beware of these, do not use unless you know the owner says all right, because some/many are kind of experimental playgrounds of their owners. The ones I pointed you to are alright. You do not want a gnome repo? Alright, but there is another repo. This time you can choose. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Hi, I scanned through this thread last night and decided to update gimp to 2.8.6 via a one-click yast link that was suggested in one of the replies. It didn't work, as the repository contained in the one-click had been changed. I searched around a bit and found out how to add the 2.8.6 gimp version from opensuse. Here is a link to the page that provides a working one-click installation: http://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=openSUSE% 3AFactory&package=gimp Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
