Hi, For a week I've tried to update my 7.3 to 8.0 version via ftp. I have tried both ftp located outside my local network and ftp in my local network (my secondary computer where i have downloaded whole "8.0" directory) and .... it does not work. yast successfully downloads "root" image. yast2 starts and after requesting update->default+office it starts "simulate" to download packages (500+) that are needed. Simulate - means yast2 generate messages that particular packages are downloaded and installed - without doing that in fact (sic!!!). Then system is restarted and of course there are no needed kernel modules (2.4.18). Nothing is installed. SuSE Linux 7.3 runs on Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. PCMCIA - Xircom REM 10/100 + modem 56k. Any ideas? I appreciate for any help. All the best, -- Emcek
Hello! Is the box you have downloaded the installation to another Linux? If so try to connect via NFS. I have istalled several computers with 8.0 that way. Create floppies forr boot, modules1 and modules3 first and then boot on the floppy. I have made new installations but I think there is an alternative for updating. /Nils-Olov On Monday 08 July 2002 15.14, Emcek wrote:

All the best,
I am having exactly the same problem as Emcek is having. I think you made new installations. SuSE-8.0 does not seem to allow updating from 7.3 although it is supposed to be doing. I think that it does not depend on whether you are accessing the source via ftp or nfs. Regards,
