[SuSE Linux] .tar.gz files
Hi all; I'm using 5.2 with YaST .89.something. Anyway I tryed to install a program today that was XXX.tar.gz. In yast it did not show this file or any like it. There were only RPM files and .tgz files. Did I do something wrong or is this a bug? rename the file to .tgz and it will work (provided it is a archive containing binaries instead of source code.

YaST isn't going to detect apps built from source code unless you put it in a format it'll recognize, like RPM. Just remember when you're downloading stuff to make notice of what the format is of the file, 990f the time a file with that extension --.tgz or .tar.gz ( same thing ) is an uncompiled tarred and gunzipped archive of a programs source files, usually with the stuff you need to compile it, like a 'configure' script or a raw 'spec' and an INSTALL file etc , included in the archive. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
