I ran 'snd' to edit several mp3 files and then could not restart xmms. If I try to start xmms from a command-line, I get the following: pat@wahoo:~> xmms Available CPU flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse 733.37 MHz Pentium III (Coppermine) processor detected ksysguard show 3 instances of xmms processes running ??? but, xmms does not appear on the desktop or on the taskbar. The taskbar does shift quickly as if it was making room for another instance but, it is just a flicker. I have killed and rebooted the x-server, but not linux. If you want to know if a process is still running the easiest way is to type "ps aux|grep <program name>" in xterm. This will list all processes that are running with the name of the program in them. If xmms is running you can kill all instances by typeing "killall xmms" if that still doesn't remove the processes you can do a "killall -9 xmms" but that should be a last resort as it can lead to memory loss and unsaved information in the program you are stopping. I haven't made myself understood. I can kill all instances of xmms. What I cannot do is start xmms and have the app show on the screen. It does start 3 instances but NONE SHOW ON THE SCREEN or on the taskbar. The only thing that I have not tried that I believe may make a difference is to restart the entire system ??? Thanks for your response. Please continue...
