[opensuse] OS 12.3 on Mac Powerbook: No wireless
Hello I just installed OS 12.3 on my Mac Powerbook 8.1 and cannot find out how to make wireless working. There is simply no wireless device seen, neither in Yast nor in NetworkManager. The only thing I found was http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installation_on_a_Mac which is old and talks about a broadcom-sta driver. This is not available in Yast (packman repo enabled). The broadcom page http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php says the driver supports other devices than mine (mine is 4331). Whatever I find in google refers to Ubuntu and doesn't help me much... Can anybody hep me any further? Thanks! Did you run "install_bcm43xx_firmware" (while plugged to an ethernet connection ?) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Daniel, Indeed the install_bcm43xx_firmware gives a kernel panic for whatever reason. You could try what i did to get my slightly different BCM wireless going. I took the install_bcm43xx_firmware script and took only some lines. If you execute the following lines as root your wireless should work: wget http://www.lwfinger.com/b43-firmware/broadcom-wl-5.10.144.3.tar.bz2 wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o b43-fwcuter -w /lib/firmware broadcom-wl-5.10.144.3/linux/wl_apsta.o b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o /sbin/modprobe -r b43 /sbin/modprobe b43 /sbin/modprobe -r b43legacy /sbin/modprobe b43legacy I think I did a reboot after that and wireless should be working and showing up in yast or network-manager. kind regards, Natasha P.S. Hello Natasha, Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the above does not work for me. I guess, it's because those files serve for older broadcoms (mine is 4331). I found this thread in the forum: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/484284-... However, the link lwfinger mentioned does not work. Maybe I get an answer there - or if somebody knows here, there's still the possibility to make me happy with my MacBook Pro :-) thanks and kind regards Daniel -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Barcelona professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com google+: https://plus.google.com/109534388657020287386 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
