Can anyone tell me if they have experience loading linux (my current version is 9.3) on this laptop? I have to go into the hospital for a prolonged stay in the near future and would love to have linux available to me on my laptop to pass the time. I tried a live CD version and it did load but I was unable to get graphics beyond the framebuffer with 16 colors. I know what a difficult subject this is but I would sure appreciate any help I could get. Thanks. Scott
Hi I'm just a beginner at Linux but I have a Dell Latitude XPS M170 with a Nvidia Geforce Go 7800 GTX. Have installed win xp for gaming and Suse 10.0 for learning. No problems yet, it works better then the XP installation, finds all the hardware including the wireless. I'm really impressed by the suse.....cause it was a bit of a problem with the drivers in xp but no problems at all with suse. Know that this is a different computer but I am writing this anyway just explaining that it really works wit the latest hardware. ******************************************************************************** This is Linux country, on a quiet night you can hear Windows Reboot. ******************************************************************************** The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners. ******************************************************************************** Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change to take effect. Reboot now? [ OK ] ******************************************************************************** On 12/28/05, J. http://tuxmobil.org/acer.html has a 4005WLMi listed with SUSE 9.3 but the link is broken. Dang. http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/acer.html has a couple 400x listings. Browse these entries for the Ferrari in general. Sounds like most of it will work out of the box or straight off the DVD... I'd recommend getting 10.0 and the latest alpha of 10.1 just for fun and to make sure you don't get bored in hospital. Split that hard drive into 3 or 4 operating systems. Hoping your stay is shorter than expected for good and healthy reasons. Stan
