[opensuse] Tumbleweed version number?
Hi Folks, I'm considering Tumbleweed for a customer, but they want to "register" the version number. What version numbering scheme does TW use? What would "/etc/os-release" show? Would it be a static number, or would it change as it "tumbles"? Thanks, Lew -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Isn't that a fool's errand on a rolling release? What is this "register" anyway?, Company inventory or something? -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, but I need to get started somewhere, and this registry is run by fools anyway. :-)

It's sort of like a list of pre-approved of software. It could very well be they won't permit TW and other rolling-release packages. I can get things like "openSUSE 13.x" approved, but maybe not something like "openSUSE x.y". Don't know where you would register it and what you would register. But the release number changes with each snapshot release, currently: cat /etc/os-release NAME=openSUSE VERSION="Tumbleweed" VERSION_ID="20160307" PRETTY_NAME="openSUSE Tumbleweed (20160307) (x86_64)" ID=opensuse ANSI_COLOR="0;32" CPE_NAME="cpe:/o:opensuse:opensuse:20160307" BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.opensuse.org" HOME_URL="https://www.opensuse.org/" ID_LIKE="suse" version would be 20160307 which will change shortly. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah, thanks, that's what I need. The version for registration purposes will be "Tumbleweed". I'll see if they let me get away with that. Regards, Lew -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It seems odd that there isn't an app in Systemsettings that presented all the possible version numbers for various bits of system software i.e. OS, KDE, Plasma etc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
