SuSE 7.0 Pro , knfsd and no_subtree_check
Folks, Since moving from 6.3 to 7.0 Pro and moving to the kernel nfs server in 2.2.18 I've had the following problems. Machine B has /, /opt, /usr and /home ext2 filesystems mounted.
From machine A I used to able to "mount -t nfs B:/ /B" to make the whole of B's filestore visable on A. However now the /opt /usr and /home directories appear empty when viewed from A.
I think the "no_subtree_check" option has something to do with this problem, but the version of mount in 7.0 complains that "no_subtree_mount" is an "Unknown keyword". Folks,
I've sorted the problem ! It looks like the kernel nfs server in 2.2.18, and the kernel nfs client in 2.2.16 don't work too well together. It wasn't "no_subtree_check" I needed, it was "nohide". The solution ? 1) Upgrade both boxes to 2.2.18 2) install the latest nfs utils from ufs-utils-0.2.1 (using "./configure --enable-kprefix" to get the correct names for the utils). 3) Change /etc/exports to include "nohide" and explicit exports for directories that are themselves mounted filesystems.
