[SLE] email accounts without shell access
Hi, Does anyone know what software is being used by ISP's to give addtional email accounts, without shell access? You get 1 login account, but can obtain additional email addresses usually free or for a small fee. What software do they use on the server-side? WE just set there shell to /bin/false. This way they can't login to a shell but can do everything else. *--------------------------------* | Chris Large clarge@macn.bc.ca | | http://gone for now | *--------------------------------* -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Problem with setting shell to /bin/false to lock accounts. Last week I (thought I) discovered that a user can still login with his/her shell set to /bin/false. It was only after running tripwire on the machine with signatures from my own system that I realized that the machine were cracked and that /bin/false were linked to /bin/bash. Chris Large wrote:

Well, man true and man false are fairly short and clear...one does nothing successfully and the other does nothing unsuccessfully. * zentara (zentara@gypsyfarm.com) [000904 12:50]: -->Bruce wrote: -->> -->> Try setting the account shells to /bin/true. --> -->What is the difference between /bin/false and /bin/true? --> -->-- -->To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com -->For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com -->Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq --> -- Cheers, Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ------------------------- "The only 'intuitive' interface is the nipple. In the SuSE (6.4 or 7.x) DVD Version, is any way to select in which way the installation goes ? I mean,,, text o graphic ? And is any way that allow me to select the packages to install (in a very detail way [like in text version]) ? I only install once the graphic version and save the configuration on a floppy disk, but late, I can not find any way to make a new graphic installation and load the old save configuration.
