Macintosh MacBinary Self-Mounting Disk Images
Does this sound off topic? Well, actually it's not as off topic as you might think. My Linux box (the one I'm on now)had 19 MacBinary files (that form the 19 disks of Mac OS System 7.5.3 from Apple.com), and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to some how use dd to create the disks I need. See, the problem is, I have an old Apple Powerbook 140 running System 7.0.1, and I would like to update it to 7.5.3. However, firstly it only has 17 megs of free space (so I can't fit all of these images on it), and even if I could it also doesn't have software for internet connections. This as I've said is where Linux comes in. I would like to (somehow) take these self mounting images (SMI) and create diskettes with them. Is this possible? There use to be a program that allowed exchange between any floppy format the drive could handle called ALIEN, however I haven't seen it for some years (dos3 era) I shall look in my archives but the floppys I suspect may be dead by now. The alternate is if you can find out the floppy format (tracks, sectors, block size) for the mac you should be able to setup your own linux floppy drive. Check the floppy howto, I know it was in the old v5 one as I setup a CPM one back then. regards scsijon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Timothy R.Butler" <tbutler@uninetsolutions.com> To: "SuSE Mailing List" <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2001 4:15 PM Subject: [SLE] Macintosh MacBinary Self-Mounting Disk Images the
