Hey all, I posted a little while ago about compiling the latest version of FlightGear and it having issues on the compile. Anyway, I can't seem to figure out the problem (I don't know what files/packages I am missing, and can't seem to see anything obvious), so I was wondering if anyone has created an RPM of a more recent version of FlightGear for SuSE 8.0 than is on the CDs. Heeeeeeeeelp please :o) Thanks all, Jon

FlightGear is one of those projects that moves really fast :). I have it working great on SuSE 8.1, but its from a CVS build unfortuantly and its on 8.1. I take it you're on dial up? Otherwise you'd have done a CVS build. Matt PS must learn step by step guide on building rpms from source...

Thanks for your reply - will look into downloading the latest CVS version, and if all else fails will try downloading SuSE 8.1, and putting it on a "spare" harddisk I have here for such "testing" purposes

There are some instructions, step by step on linuxsimulations.org. These will link to relevant pages for you. Although, first thing to do is remove the SuSE version of FlightGear as you need to get later versions of metakit, simgear

Hehe, compiling is usually ./configure make make install. Unless its a horrid package :). I would love to see this as a configure switch "/configure --make-rpm" and --make-deb :). Would be nice to then have a spec file with which to build an RPM.

8.0 shouldn't be an issue as far as I know; 8.1 came with GCC 3.2... FG has new models now, albeit currently unpainted, but you're in for a treat, so don't give up. Matt

Its a fast moving target and one needs to have pre-liminary packages installed beforehand.

Yes, but I am working on them :). I take it you did: cvs -d :pserver:cvsguest@cvs.flightgear.org:/var/cvs/FlightGear-0.9 login CVS passwd: guest Then: cvs -d :pserver:cvsguest@cvs.flightgear.org:/var/cvs/FlightGear-0.9 co FlightGear Although before that you would need SimGear 3.1 from here: http://www.simgear.org/ Get the tarball, worked fine here :). In the folder called src-libs go and install metakit first.
Any idea?

Results on my box are: Scripts for input bindings: PSL scripts attached to input bindings will not work. Download the latest CVS version of plib if you would like to enable them. Hang in there, I need to update this and then re-compile the whole project. Wait a week and quite a bit changes :).

Good, once you're up and running it will be worthwhile. FG has a few features missing from the alternatives on Windows machines.... Matt

Matt mentioned you would need a new simgear. That looks like your problem above. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. I say, by the grace of God, I am what I am.

Thanks Joe, I didn't make that very clear. With projects of this type even a week can make a huge difference. Give it over three weeks and you might as well rip out plib, metakit etc and start from scratch with CVS builds :). Oh, hopefully the full release will be packaged with a Loki style installer, but that is still some way off. Matt

As an alternative, instead of make install, install checkinstall (from the CD), configure /etc/checkinstall to match your system, and type checkinstall instead of make install. This will make AND install an rpm, and your package will be removeable by rpm -e <package name>. Wow, thanks! Will be doing that from now on. Matt PS Running off to grab checkinstall.

No need to run off. It's been included in each distro that I know of since 7.3. -- Patrick Shanahan http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org

Found it already installed, thanks to Yast :). Just edited the file /etc/checkinstallrc now just waiting for simgear to compile to try it out. Might take awhile, also been doing a KDE3 .1 RC install to... Matt

Hello,
My modem is not working properly anymore. When I try to use the yast modem
module the module freezes on 'detecting devices'. I am using suse 8.1.
Here is what I have learned:
To: FaxMaster@orion.local
From: The HylaFAX Receive Agent

You hijacked the "Re: [SLE] FlightGear again :o)" thread. You will probably get more answers if you start a new, non hijacked, thread. On your problem, /dev/modem is just a link you can change by hand. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
