Shutdown and turn off
Hey Group; I setup a ATX system with SuSE 8.2 and it will not turn the power "OFF". I have another system which will do this. However, the other system with a ATX power supply will not - it reboots I have looked trough /etc/sysconfig and as I remember there was a variable that could be set to reboot/halt (power off) under 8.0. The only thing I find now is "quint" sound. My pentium 4 will not power off. I can reboot, but not halt, by command or otherwise. If I watch the console number 10 while it is halting, I finally see: ACPI-1121: *** Error: Method execution failed [\SALD] (node efe3dc0), AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_LOCAL ACPI-1121: *** Error: Method execution failed [\PTS] (node efed5c0), AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_LOCAL and crashes (locks). Even the keyboard stops working (caps lock frozen). I have to power off by the power switch. Needles to say, it worked wit suse 8.1 -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
In YaST, Security and Users, Security Settings, then follow the prompts. It's the second or third choice. On Fri, 2003-08-01 at 20:22, Donn aka n5xwb Washburn wrote:

No, no. Mine freezes after it acutally tries to halt, with an error logged to console number 10: ACPI-1121: *** Error: Method execution failed [\SALD] (node efe3dc0), AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_LOCAL ACPI-1121: *** Error: Method execution failed [\PTS] (node efed5c0), AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_LOCAL Then the machine crashes (locks). Even the keyboard stops working (caps lock frozen). I have to power off by the power switch. Needles to say, it worked wit suse 8.1 - but I'm not going to downgrade because of that. It's a bug, of course, but who can solve it, I don't know, nor whom write to - nobody is comenting it here :-( "reboot" works, by the way. But not "halt". -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
