[opensuse] How to set Networkmanager to autoconnect on startup, or when waking up?
Hi, I think it is not very userfriendly to have to connect manualy (wifi) after quiting screensaver or when waking up. Also i am used to get connected when i startup automaticaly, this is also not happening. Is there reason as to why this happens, or a way to set it the way one wants/likes it? I think these apps should just work, and not draw unnecessary attention to themselves. I understand security is important, but why do i have to give my walletpassword if i want to establish a wpa2/tkip connection? I was used to be connected to my inbox, and tabs already loaded, when i was booted up. Now i have to manualy connect via a plasmoid, because ifup does not work anymore the way it did in earlier versions. Or maybe i am spoiled all these things could work automaticly, when once set up right? Sure, just use the networkmanagement plasmoid, go to "Manage Connections...", then edit your wireless connection and checl "Connect automatically".

Ah, okay, you already did this. So, you do not have to manually connect but to provide your wallet password! I found this really annoying, too. There are two easy solutions: * set an empty password for your wallet * tell the plasmoid that you you want to save your password in a file instead of the wallet ("Manage Connections..."->"Other"->...) However, please consider that you will leave your WPA key unprotected. This is not a problem for me since my disk is encrypted. I granted always access to the wallet for networkmanager. Now i only have to give the wallet password ... This is before all apps have booted, so not that annoying. Only have to wait a short while after login on.. Have not tried it when waking up, or after screensaver yet This is quite acceptable: You have no idea how happy i am that this issue is finaly solved... I postponed this every time, and used a wire... or: M$, and here is not even 7, but XP. The 64GB SSD takes 4ever to boot XP, while oS11.4 just takes 25 secs. Thanks 4 taking time to instruct me :-))

I did try today, several times: sleep, and waking up just logon to the session and up she goes! Wallet only to use once, at a boot up..

If you set an empty password for your wallet, it will never ask, BTW.

Feature? Bug? On my laptop I don't see the password as very useful as the interesting stuff is on the hard disk, not the net... I will be trying this. Use traditional networking via ifup; setup in yast. Works from boot, no prompts. I have my laptop that way. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I always had it that way, but since 11.4, (and 3) it stopped working on my eeepc since the old router died from lightning struck, and i was forced 2 use a new one with wpa2/tkip, the trouble realy started, and not only on this eeepc, but on my wifi scan and print pc also. I have downloaded a new driver 2day 4 wpa2, 4 an usb wifi adaptor that stopped working after updating the protocolls in XP, which runs on that box. All about security these days..

Does that still work? Warning: your post contains a "followup to" header, that breaks with thunderbird, it is is interpreted as a nntp post request. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Good to know. Then maybe it is the yast module that is not, there was talk of that. I was thinking of doing my own scripts, for the rare occasion that I need connecting out of home. I will study this again :-) - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
