Can someone tell me how to change the default WM used in Gnome from metacity to something else? I've searched through all the GConf settings I can find to no avail, and there seems to be no config file containing this info that I can find. My .xinitrc just uses a variable ($WINDOWMANAGER) whose value is set somewhere I can't find. The GConf key is /desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/default I've never done this, so I suspect you may also need to blag it by running something like the following at the command line to force the current session to be using the alternative WM when you exit it: killall -9 metacity ; sleep 2s ; openbox James -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0). I tried that several times, both with and without changing the WM for the current session, and it gets reset to metacity every time I log back in! I eventually resorted to using "Save session settings on logout", which did save my WM, but has done what it usually does and scrambled everything else - it tries to start 2 copies of gkrellm, xmms and gaim when I log in now, even though I saved another session without these apps running that it should use when I log back in! But that's another problem :-/ John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Knossos: escape the ever-changing labyrinth before the Minotaur catches you!
