[opensuse] Firefox 3.6 and KDE4.4.3 - looses window decorations
This is a weird one... it's happening on a computer I support (via phone). It's running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE4.4.3 (with compositing turned off) and Firefox 3.6.3. This morning the user started up the computer and opened Firefox... and all window decorations for Firefox are missing. Window decorations on all other apps tested are as they should be... this is only affecting Firefox. So far nothing I've walked the user through has worked to "recover" the lost window decorations (eg pressing F11, restarting Firefox). The only thing I haven't tried yet is renaming their .mozilla directory - not an easy task since this user is not all that experienced and walking through troubleshooting (via phone) at this level is not an easy task. I cannot duplicate it or trigger this on my own systems running virtually identical setups. While poking Google for info I came across this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/251617 (I haven't tinkered with localstore.rdf for the same reasons mentioned above.. phone support.. limited knowledge of the end user). Has anyone else seen this? or have any suggestions or ideas? C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Checking Alt+F3/Advanced/No border on any of the windows could help, possibly also Alt+F3/Advanced/Special settings/Preferences/No border . The latter could be also used to override whatever is causing this problem if you cannot find the real problem, if you manage to explain the user how to create a rule that would force 'no border' disabled on all Firefox windows (good luck with trying that over the phone). -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The oddity continues... but. in a good way I guess. We tried a few things... log out, log in etc, and Firefox still had no window decorations (I was watching most of the user actions via the Skype share desktop thing so I was able to actually see what the user was doing). At some point, the user needed to step out for a couple of hours, so Firefox was shut down, but the computer was left running. When the user came back and restarted Firefox.... everything was back to normal. So, we never got to try the Alt+F3 options... I guess all I can do is wait and see if it happens again. :-P C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
