K3B 0.10, Suse 9.0, tried running under both KDE 3.1.4 and Gnome 2.2.2. I realize this is not a K3B list but... When I try to build a Data Cd project in K3B, it insists on putting the files in alphabetical order. I want to specify the order. (I'm trying to burn an MP3 mix.) There must be an option setting somewhere to allow this but I can't find it. Does anyone know how to put files into a Data CD Project in arbitrary sequence? Thanks for any assistance. Don Henson

You could add a sequence number to the start of each filename: 01_track.mp3 02_track.mp3 ... The zero is necessary so you don't get the sequence 1, 10, 11, ... 19, 2, 20, ... HTH Dylan -- Sweet moderation Heart of this nation Desert us not We are between the wars - Billy Bragg

I'm sure that would work but we're talking about a library of over 2500 songs and changing the filenames at this point would mess up a whole bunch of other stuff. Good idea but not really practical. Don Henson

How about: Create a temporary working directory, make symlinks in that directory to the files in your playlist, rename the symlinks (krename can do it as a batch, and I believe the bash command mv can as well,) use the symlinks in K3B and away you go. Yeh, it's a cludge, but it'll work until you find a better way. Dylan -- Sweet moderation Heart of this nation Desert us not We are between the wars - Billy Bragg

I couldn't find any info on changing filenames with changing numbers in man mv so I went to Krename. It looks like it'll do what I want but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to create the template and where to put it. So where & how? Don Henson

Sorry, try man rename

That looks like it does what I want but I'm just too tired to figure out what man is telling me. I'll work on it some more later. Thanks for hanging in there with me. Don Henson

I think dylan meant rename the files in the project in k3b, not the files directly on your hard disc. Hans

That did cross my mind, but since I don't use k3b myself I didn't know if it allowed it. Dylan -- Sweet moderation Heart of this nation Desert us not We are between the wars - Billy Bragg

As it turns out, K3B does allow that and while it's a reasonable workaround, the problem really should be resolved in K3B itself. I'm awaiting a password so I can create a bug report not. Thanks to both of you. Don Henson
