[opensuse] Yast and updates
A long time ago I used Caldera and RPMs (actually wrote some). After Caldera I moved to distro that did not use RPMs and was on it for several years. I've just moved to OpensSUse 10.1 and have some questions about package managerment. I've been reading various docs on the web but any links or pointers to more docs would be appreciated. 1. Yast vs smart vs?? - any pros can cons of each. Yast is the built-in and Suse supported so I guess that's a plus 2. How do I tell Yast that I have a 686 system - uname tells me that but it keeps installing 586 packages. 3. Given that I'm on 10.1 how do I get to 10.2 A. Run an Update DVD created from a Download B. Set my installation sources to 10.2 on packman and others and let Yast do the update C. Other options? Thanks. -- Brett I.
