Few general questions: 1) Has anyone gotten quotas to work on 7.1 (the file system is ext2) 2) How do I go about setting up two domains (on DNS, like www.larkhavengolf.com and www.gamingsolutions.com ) because I need it to work with sendmail, apache, proftp, and qpopper. 3)How do I go about setting up mailing list like on samba where the subscribers can subscribe themself thru the website? 4)Anyone know where there is a 1.3.22 rpm with php. 5)What is php good for, can someone point me to some docs about it? 6)On our company network we have a 1.5 mbps Adsl with a static ip, and we are a web server, http server , and pop/smtp server, the bandwith is running out and I was wondering how much improvement would we see if we set up squid. The hardware is a 1.2 ghz Amd, 768meg of ram, and 160gig of storage. Thanks, Brandon

2) How do I go about setting up two domains (on DNS, like www.larkhavengolf.com and www.gamingsolutions.com ) because I need it to work with sendmail, apache, proftp, and qpopper.
Do you mean HOSTING the dns, or setting up the various programs to use them? BIND has support for multiple domains, you'll just have to build a new zone file, and add it to your BIND configuration. If it is application related, each one would address the issues separately I assume.
5)What is php good for, can someone point me to some docs about it?
PHP is an awesome scripting language used for designing various web-based applications. I have built some fairly interesting stuff in PHP. I think it's a very powerful scripting language. I'm working on a big PHP project as we speak. Once it's ready, I'll send the URL!

Depends on where you are looking for gains. SQUID will keep your Internal WebSurfing traffic down because it will cache various items. However, it will not reduce the traffic from external users into your network. There are some products out there that do a great job of reducing HTTP traffic needed between client and server (http://www.fineground.com), however they come with limitations, and cost a pretty penny at times. Hi All Im relly new in this Linux OS, I have the Suse 6.4 a little old I think, well I made a complety fresh installation on a PIII 600Mhz and 9Gb HD, 3Com ethernet adapter, everything went fine except that when I try to ping to any computer in my network I dont have any response, I double check IP address, network mask, default router, etc. The interface is up and running but dont know where else to look. I installed almost everything, but dont know if some package is causing some kind of conflict. Do you guys have any clue what I can do to have network connectivity? Thanks in advance. Mark

Try "route" command. Copy the output to the list and we'll look at
it.

You need to send a few more details. Your hosts file might help, and the output of ifconfig. Have you tried pinging the hosts by IP address or just by their hostname ? Can you ping "localhost" -- Regards Cliff

The problel is that I even can't connect to my Linux box with telnet from any other host in my network, I can ping my localhost, with the ifconfig command I see my eth0 interface up with the correct ip address, the default router appears on my route table, I do "ping ipaddress" and got no response from any host on my network, and as I said this is a new installation my host table is empty, by now. Have any clue? Im not sure if I have some kind of security that doesn't allow me to go out, could be possible? Thanks in advance Mark Cliff Sarginson wrote:

Check the following; Netmask ? Output of ipchains -L ? Most probably one of these... Jon

I did. What problems do you have with it?
3)How do I go about setting up mailing list like on samba where the subscribers can subscribe themself thru the website? There are some packages to make up mailing lists. One I know is majordomo, but I may be wrong as I dont use it.
5)What is php good for, can someone point me to some docs about it? It is good to do web pages. Quanta+ has got some docs about it.
Thanks, Brandon
