[opensuse] XFCE terminal: the tittle doesn't follow the command line after update.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, After update to "xfce4-terminal-0.8.5.1-32.3.x86_64", the tittle bar text doesn't follow what happens on the command line, like doing "ssh" or "su -". See small attached photos to understand. The package comes from "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/xfce/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/". Some problems are solved, new ones appear :-( - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Not changed from before the update. I tried there already. It is: Initial tittle: Terminal Dynamically set tittle: Replaces initial tittle. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

I've only got 0.8.5.1-1.1 which might be what you upgraded from, and I've also got a different theme that has much more room in the title bar for the title but, in that setup, I've got "Dynamically set title: Goes after initial title" which works fine. Where did you get 0.8.5.1-32.3.x86_64 from? I'd be happy to load it and see if I have the same problem or not. Thanks. The repo is https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/xfce/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/. This repo solves the problem with the weather applet, and adds a pulse volume applet, which is why I updated. But the terminal has problems. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Well, I can confirm that it doesn't work in 0.8.5.1-32.3.x86_64 from that 422 repo, nor in 0.8.5.1-32.2.x86_64 from the 423 repo, but that's not suprising since it did not work in the stock 0.8.5.1-1.1 either! I was apparently wrong earlier when I said it did work in 0.8.5.1-1.1 as it's not working now. It doesn't ever change from the original user to 'follow' a new login executed in that terminal window. Sorry, I don't know what I was looking at earlier today :-/ Maybe that never worked, in any version? Do you remember clearly that dynamic title change was working for a newly logged in user in an existing window on a previous version? FWIW, I remember that at some point with some terminal or other I had a problem with the title not changing and then discovered that it would change if I opened another tab in the terminal window. I just gave up and switched to LXterminal, so maybe not much help, but it might be worth experimenting. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I just installed it, and I have replaced two open xfce-terminal with lxterminals. One difference is how each one renders the tabs list. Comparing memory footprint: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR SWAP S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 3695 cer 20 0 415932 63500 43416 0 S 0,000 0,777 0:03.77 lxterminal 3696 cer 20 0 0 0 0 0 Z 0,000 0,000 0:00.00 lxterminal 4580 cer 20 0 1281568 53976 14316 56648 S 0,000 0,660 9:54.59 xfce4-terminal I'm looking because "top" memory sort puts lxterminal much earlier. It is because of the "RES" size. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

I just found it has a problem: on xfce session save, it does not remember the opened tabs. Maybe because it is not an xfce tool? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Yes, it was working previously in my 42.2, although not always. For instance, it doesn't work in another computer I did not update. Maybe it is affected by another thing from the "update repo", not the "xfce repo". I distinctly remember that the tab where I had done "su -" displayed "root@machine". And when doing "ssh" it displayed the name of the target machine. For some commands it "works" now: try to start 'mc', the terminal follows; what happens now is that when you exit 'mc' it does not go back. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
