Re: [SLE] Rieser file system vs Netware NSS
NSS does run on SuSE as part of Novell's Nterprise Linux Services. This could be beneficial for specific Novell services as it will support extended attributes that Reiserfs doesn't, and be happily managed via iManager. Just as an idea, here's a quick review article from information week: http://www.informationweek.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=60401973 Regards, Steve

We are running make that installing...Novell OES Sles. The default partitioning is rieser. May be confused but I thought Novell was supporting NSS under Suse? (NSS is what we used on Netware 6.5) Is rieser the default because it is the best all around for Linux.
thanks in advance... I have to start somewhere,

nss is for netware not for linux which is what SuSE runs on. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners. -Ernst Jan Plugge -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Is this on the install DVD or the CD's? The OP was inquiring as to whether or not he could format the HD using NSS instead of reiser during the SLES install or at least that is what I understood him to ask. Also please don't top post. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

I see NCP as an option in the kernel, but I don't remember seeing it during install.
Also please don't top post.
I don't want to reopen the debate, but most times it makes the reply in question immediately readable, if your memory is that good and saves paging over the cruft to see what you really want to see, OK if you are seeing for the first time, but I normally ignore the top stuff, however, bottom posting seems to be the norm and I stick with it. I personally see nothing wrong with top posting, although I usually bottom post, but I cannot really understand why some people dislike top posting. -- NSK http://portal.wikinerds.org

The convention says trim back the latest to something reasonable and bottom post. When following a topic, I don't usually want to see what went before, but if I get interested part way through the discussion, I can visit the archives, so I find top posting less intrusive, but as the saying goes, I takes whatever comes.
