Hi Mark.
You may want to check your clock. It appears all your messages were sent in March.
Hi, thanks to all who sent me messages telling me that my clock was off by date. I loaded KDE 4 yesterday so I could start to get used to using it. It looks like it messed up my date and time settings on kde3 &4. I just found that the box for "use local timezone" was set by default in kde4 and instead of using US eastern time it tried to use the timezone that I was in (but yesterday, not in March, go figure) . The time kept reverting to March whenever I reset it, but now will reset to the current date and time after unchecking this box. It still won't set to the proper time on boot when the checkbox on kde3 is checked for "set date and time automatically." Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, but the most immediate concern is described in the next paragraph. I found last evening that when I switched back to kde 3 from kde4, the trashbin icon was missing from the desktop. I just logged out and logged into kde 4 again, and found it is missing there as well. Anybody have any ideas about how to get that back onto the desktop? I've looked through the kde manual and tried a couple of things, none of which worked. If I click on home icon in kicker, then click on the desktop icon in the konqueror window that opens up, I can find the trashbin icon there. I can click on it and use the trashbin functions in the konqueror window, so it still works. But don't know how to get a functional trashbin icon back on the desktop. I had the same problem with gnome and time. In yast I set the time to be controlled by ntp, starting at boot time and using random servers. No more problems today. The kernel shutdown was setting the hardware clock to system time; so, if the system was wrong at shutdown, the cmos clock set it back wrong on startup. Ntp seems to have eliminated that cycle. I noticed that too. Your messages landed in archive :-) It seems that is a problem with system clock. I had unstable clock until started ntp daemon. The ntp demon will keep time, but that is only workaround.

Seems bug, but I'm out of time to check bugzilla right now.

Here happened the same, in the same scenario. It is a bug. Right click on icon, select properties, click on document icon that replaced trashbin icon. It will open icon selection dialog. It opens in Applications by default, but there is more categories in that dropdown menu, so check them all and you'll find oxygen icon for thrash bin. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi, I have tried to set the clock to refresh via the ntp daemon but the ntp servers won't work. They can't be reached. I don't know if it is because of the hotel router here near Tokyo or what. I will just have to set the time manually each time that I start until I change locations in a couple of days, then I will be in Taipei.

Hi, I tried that already yesterday evening and replaced the icon, but the trashbin didn't work with the new icon. Now the document icon and trash bin icon are gone, so there is nothing related to trashbin on the desktop on both kde 3 or 4. It is just gone. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Then you do not have installed opensuse 11. Both come with the rpm "aaa_base"

My opensuse 11.0 is running Ok. I get the following: chkconfig boot.clock boot.clock off chkconfig boot.getclock boot.getclock on rpm -qa |grep aaa_base aaa_base-11.0-79.2 linux 2.6.25.5-1.1-pae #1 SMP Do I need to turn on boot.clock? Yes, you do :-) /etc/init.d/boot.clock sets the clock when booting, and /etc/init.d/boot.getclock sets the cmos, battery backed, clock correctly when powering off. You may not see problems for a while, or if you run ntp. But sooner or later, you will. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
