i've just inherited a suse machine. it was probably installed from suse cd's, but i didn't get them. i want to run gnumeric and abiword, but they aren't already installed. i tried downloading the gnumeric rpm, but then it needs a slew of dependant rpms. is there a way to tell yast2 to download and install all the required rpms? or if not yast2, would it be right to run the install program to download and install the needed rpms? how exactly? thank you!

Gregory, There is a program that would be perfect for you. It is called apt-get, and the gui is synaptic. Go to http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/ to download the packages and read about the program. You'll probably want 0.5.4, because it can work with a system that has run online update(YOU). But then again what version of SuSE are you running / did you inherit. There is also a great deal of apt-get stuff in the archives. Franklin On Wed, 2002-09-25 at 17:02, gregory mott wrote:
