I've heard about a company that's specialized in a mini-linux distribution. Apparently they succeeded to fit a whole operating system on a floppy. How the hell did they do that? How can you configure/compile a kernel that small?
I'd assume the filesystem is a compressed image on the floppy and everything expands into a ramdisk. I've been meaning to try this out myself, IIRC there is an overview in the bootdisk howto. Actually some of these floppy distros are pretty cool for a utilities tool, router / firewall whatever. A friend and I setup freesco which was installed on a 486 no hd, no cd, just a floppy and 16mb of ram. Had some problems setting up netcards but after it was working properly we disconnected the monitor and put it out of the way to do it's job. http://www.linuxsupportline.com/~router/links.htm L8R -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
