Hi, if anyone plans on toying around with IBMs journaling file system "JFS", I have created RPMs of the required userland tools for SuSE Linux 7.1 and 7.2 (i386) - they will be available from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/grimmer/RPMs/i386/ and http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/export/RPMs/i386/ soon. (The web server already has them, mirroring to ftp.suse.com takes a while longer). A kernel with JFS included will take a few more days, though, but we are working on it. The patches from the IBM web site should apply cleanly to the SuSE kernel sources. Feedback is very welcome! Any particular reason why you are making direct and pretty much immediate efforts with JFS but not XFS?

Simple - XFS is a much more intrusive patch to the kernel than JFS and requires extra checking, that it does not interfere with other kernel patches we add. But we are working on adding XFS as well - the user level tools for JFS just happened to be ready earlier.
