Every time a partition is mounted, a counter is incremented on that partition that counts the number of times it has been mounted. Once it reaches a certain limit, the partition is fscked whether or not it was unmounted cleanly (partitions are not usually checked if they were unmounted cleanly). It's just a precaution to check your disk every now and then in case some errors have crept in. Don't worry, everything's working fine. The counter limit can be changed using tunefs (IIRC). -- David Smith Tel: +44 (0)1454 462380 (direct) STMicroelectronics Fax: +44 (0)1454 617910 1000 Aztec West TINA (ST only): (065) 2380 Almondsbury Home: 01454 616963 BRISTOL Mobile: 07932 642724 BS32 4SQ Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk

It is automatic preventive maintenance. After a set number of mounts, it will run a fsck whether it needs it or not, just to be extra sure your file system is OK. You can change the setting for how often it does this, but I don't know how. I am sure others on the list do know and will post that information. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional KMail 1.0.29.2 Bryan S. There is a limit as to how many times this can happen before it checks over the filesystem to make sure it is okay. This is just informing you that a check of the partition has been forced as the drive has reached the maximum times it can be mounted before it can be checked =o) Take Care, Jon Jeffels -- -=[Tigersden Internet Services]=- ************COMING SOON************* -=[For All Your Internet Needs]=- * HTTP://www.tigersden.demon.co.uk * -=[P.G.P.
