Re: [SuSE Linux] CNN - Microsoft downplays security threat to Excel - January 7, 1999
I once visited Mission Control at the JSC in Houston. At the back of the room, you can see through the glass a work station where they monitor/control (?) the engines of the Space Shuttle.... funnily enough, they didn't appear to be using MS Windows either... The phrase "mission critical" comes to mind! The decision to use NT on the cruiser last year (the one that blue screened an put the ship dead-in-the-water) was made by a committee of three people (obviously MS brainwashees). That decision is being revisited. It sure makes my day when I go on a submarine and see the all-too-familiar motif screens purring away flawlessly. I've talked with the network admins on a couple subs, and they say Unix works like a champ, and NT and Novell cause all of their problems.
Too bad those who make the decisions don't consult those who have to live with the decisions.

Likewise, in the movie Deep Impact, with MSNBC appearing every few minutes, there were no computers running Windows in the whole movie - they were all Unix or something else.
