Please share your experiances with FireWire IEEE1394 and SuSE
Hi Everyone, I am thinking about FireWire and realized that I have not heard any Linux based experiances. Can any of you who have setup Firewire on Linux share your experiances? "Trying to Live Long & Prosper" ............... PeterB
I have: Dell Dimension 8100 Series (I don't know what kinda usb controller it comes with---you can read the specs from the website), 1394 FireWire Home DV Editing Kit Model # NN2614 (OHCI compliant) SIIG, Inc. Firewire card. (www.siig.com) Canon ZR45 MC MinDV camcorder. It works out of the box with SuSE 8.0 Pro. I was able to download the movie from the camera to my Linux box with the software provided on the SuSE DVD. Editing, however, sucks using open source software. kino has very limited in its features nad does not have any transitions effects. You will find that you FireWire card or your camcorder will come with complementary software that does Video editing. I got two. One with the camcorder and other with the DV Kit. Both of them run on Windows and are far better than whatever is available for Linux. DV Editing is in its very early stages on Linux. You will have to wait for about 2 - 3 years before you can do on LInux what you can do on Windows today :-( Salman On Friday 30 August 2002 13:38, Peter B Van Campen wrote:
