Hi, I just installed 7.3 on a Dell Precision 530 at work (a large dual cpu workstation, although at present only 1 cpu is installed). I did a live update to install new patches/packages, including NVIDIA drivers. I then installed a new 2.4.16-SMP kernel. The box comes with built-in firewire, and I was able to modprobe ohci1394, and it loaded the ieee1394 and ohci1394 modules. I have a Maxtor 160GB firewire harddrive that worked with no problem under Windows2000/sp2. When I tried to load the sbp2 module to connect the harddrive, the system freezes hard (no mouse or keyboard response). Some other issues that may be relevent: the system has ultra wide SCSI, with 2 scsi drives (/dev/sda windows, /dev/sdb with Linux), and has a IDE CDRW, and these all show up under linux. /proc/scsi/scsi shows SCSI device 0 0 0 0 to be the CDRW, devices 1 0 0 0 ad 1 0 1 0 are the scsi hard drives. Actually, the same drive also works on my Athlon box at home (Suse7.3, 2.4.16 default kernel). I just modprobe ohci1394 and sbp2 and can mount the drive as /dev/sda1.There are no other SCSI devices on the home box. Any ideas as to why the system freezes when I modprobe sbp2.o? Is it an SMP issue? A SCSI issue? Thanks John
