[SuSE Linux] Netscape 4.05 Compose
Hello all, I was wondering if there is anyway to fix the behavior of the composer in NS 4.05 so that when you do a typo and hit the backspace key it doesn't look so crappy? Like: this is a test message, and I think it should look like so <- no typo this is a test message, and I think it should look like so. Ideas, comments and suggestions are welcome! Why don't you try version 4.5? It is a major upgrade and seems to work fine. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

For some lucky folks. For me, Netscape 4.5 dies with bus errors when clicking on links like mailto:s. It also fails to start, leaves segments of itself strewn all over creation, and is will die on regular links too. Not too reliable here. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I just clicked on the mailto: s in your reply and it worked fine. I just got the thing off of the netscape site yesterday, maybe there have been bug fixes since you got your copy. I have the 128-bit encryption version, maybe there is a difference in the international version. Happy to be lucky. :-) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Yeah. Perhaps I need to try the strong encryption model. I feel like Im shopping for a used car and the salesman says, "here is the 40 bit model; it runs fine for some folks. But..." Then another salesman says, "here is the 128 bit model, stronger encryption, better url mileage." Then I wander over to the console salesman who is tapping on a rather basic model which is... lynx. Actually lynx does about 900f what I want in a browser and it just runs and runs. I hope that opera does release a linux version. Now with netscape going to aol (possibly) who knows what will happen when you launch netscape. It will probably say, "You have mail!" :) -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

My international version of 4.5 works fine here too. Just a thought when 4.5 first became available Netscape mistakenly placed the glibc version under the libc5 directory tree. I found this version to be very unstable with S.u.S.E. When this was replaced with the libc5 version, I use now things seem fairly solid. If your having problems with Netscape 4.5 try typing "ldd /opt/netscape/netscape", if it shows libc.so.6, get the libc5 version. -- Regards Jo ----------------------------------------------------------------------- For greater stability - Linux FreeBSD Unix. Well, as a few others have stated, 4.5 seems unstable, 4.6 totally stinks, and then you have 4.8 which I have not heard about. (stable?) I'd really like to try Mozilla or as a total wish, a native version of Opera. ;) Dana - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I think you are getting confused. 4.6 & 4.8 do not exist. There are versions 4.06 & 4.08. Have you tried 4.5 NOT 4.05. The presence or otherwise of the '0' after the point is important. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Netscape Navigator 4.5 crashes with bus errors quite a bit here and I have heard from others that it is either real stable or not. It got to the point with 4.5 for me where I could not click on mailto: links. There is a 4.08 standalone navigator also out. This does not include the composer, email client, etc. I saw this at their ftp site the other night. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Well, you're correct about the '0', except I'm definately using 4.05 of Netscape Communicator here, unless the program lies when I fire it up. ;) Dana - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
