NO kwallet in my TW system, now or in the future. How do I set it up so as to allow all users to connect to the internet by providing a password each time i.e. pwd not stored anywhere neither in the clear nor encrypted? Right now I have NM set up this way: connect automatically with priority 0 all users may connect provide password each time But the dialog to supply root password never shows up and the wifi password dialog does not accept the password that is input, just returns the dialog 3 times and then say "no secrets provided". What I want is all users to be able to select the network to use, to be then connected to it upon providing the network password.

When? When you edit the connection properties or when you activate the connection?

Are you sure you enter the correct password? Keyboard layout etc? Does it work if you use nmcli connection up connection-name

This should work with these settings as long as they are correctly applied and no other bugs exist. Start with showing your real connection definition (from /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections).
