Hi folks
Could be the wrong list; if another list is already in place for that
topic, please let me know ;)
Would it be possible to get access to (open)SUSE artwork ?
I mean stuff like the logo as SVG.
I'd like to gimp a few wallpapers with a nice, big openSUSE logo on it.
This has been asked a few times but stayed without a solution until now,
AFAIK.
cheers

The logo svn is available in bugzilla ;) Just look out for "logo" or "svg" in bugzilla -> product: openSUSE. Indeed, here it is:

Great, thanks Christoph.
But.. umm.. I mean... couldn't you guys come up with a harder place to
find it ? ;D
I really think we should put it on the artwork page on openSUSE.org
Is there any legal (trademark/copyright) problem with putting it there ?
cheers

Well, but that would have been to easy, wouldn't it?

So whenever The Community wants a new icon, we mark it as a "bug"? :P Oh man, that SVG is arranged like hell. (root layer) \_ #switch6 \_ #g10 \_ #Ebene_1 \_ #g13 \_ #g15 Only the I am able to mark the "SUSE" group. Yeah one can really overdo it with grouping. I use png, too. SUSE logo is gif. My guess is that almost any image format is supported. -- Regards, Rajko. not the svgz format of the resizable logo... « .svgz » n'est pas un format recommandé pour les fichiers images. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

But SVG/SVGZ (SVGZ just being a gzipped SVG) is a must ;)
GIF is really bad (only 256 colors), JPEG as well (quality loss).
PNG is good but is not a vector format and hence, when you resize it,
you get very mixed results depending on how much you resize it and how
well your application interpolates (GIMP isn't too bad at it).
SVG and EPS are vector formats and, hence, can be resized with excellent
quality, at any size ;)
BTW, some of the stuff I quickly hacked with the SVG logo:
http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/files/art/
Note that I don't have permissions from the original authors...
actually... I don't think I'll ever find the original authors again..
geez.. we really need a graphics format with embedded license and author
metadata.
My current favorite is this one:
http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/files/art/openSUSE-pinestraw.jpg
Looks pretty neat IMO:
http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/files/hera-pine.jpg
But for such things, it's really important to get access to the original
media, both graphics (SVG and/or EPS), color palettes and fonts.
At least now we have the logo ;)
AFAICR the font used in the "openSUSE" and "SUSE" logos are not freely
available (which is the case for the vast majority of high quality
fonts, unfortunately).
Would still be interesting to know what the font is called (and what
foundry it comes from) ;)
cheers

the problem is very simple: is there a risk to have malicious code imbedded with svg images? if so, we can't afford to let somebody upload them. if not, it is easy to make them uploadable (but will mediawiki display them, this is an other story) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

Huh.. malicious code in SVG ? oO SVG is XML, not ActiveX or .exe To answer your question: no, there is no risk of having malicious code embedded in SVG images.

It's up to your browser to display them.
Firefox >= 1.5 has native support for SVG (I think recent Konqueror
versions as well)
For other/older browsers, you must install a free browser plugin from Adobe.

AFAIK it's the Cholla font family. http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/emigre/cholla/ (hint: the WhatTheFont link in the menu of the above page can be useful. *g*) Regards, Christian Boltz -- [ls] Das ist ein kleiner Ludwig, gefolgt von einem kleinen Siegfried (zwei muntere Recken, die auszogen, den Drachen zu schrecken). You are right. It must be converted to jpg or png. The GIMP can do that, but the size has to be given during opening/import. I used 800x600, to get more details, and than copied that to 830x530, to allow effects that need more room like Gaussian blur. We'll see. I have to rework some graphic for front page. -- Regards, Rajko.
