Re: Re: [opensuse] Save YaST software config
dumb question, how do I use AutoYast? I've never used it before and wouldn't even know how to set it up in the manner you guys are talking about. Please help me out. Thanks. On Wed Dec 27 0:02 , Per Jessen sent:

So I do a lot of Linux installs and I want to start using OpenSuSE instead of Ubuntu. With Ubuntu's synaptic, you can save all the markings you've made in synaptic so if you ever did a fresh install, you could open the markings and reinstall everything on ubuntu the way you had it. It made reinstalling the OS more tolerable rather than to try to remember everything you had installed. Can you do anything like that with OpenSuSE in YaST. Also, can someone give me the 411 on Smart. I was told to try to use it but I am not sure about it. Thanks a lot
Autoyast
There used to be a way to save the software selection for use later, but I think it's been gone a while. Unless you regularly do the same install, autoyast is a very big gun. But if you do, the initial setup effort does pay off.

You can start out by doing a normal installation, then ticking the box that says "Clone for AutoYast" (or something like that). That'll create an XML file with the setup you've just completed. Take a look at that perhaps and then do some reading up on autoyast. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed email security. I'm at present trying to set up an instalation server for 10.2, all I can say it takes a bit of work to get it fully working, but once setup it can save countless hours in installing/configuring systems. The main document on Autoyast can be found here:- http://www.suse.com/~ug/ I also suggest you have a look at the mailing list archive also displayed on the above page. -- Regards, Graham Smith -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
