[opensuse] firefox works stable, finally
Hi, FYI, since Firefox 2.0 times, I was unlucky and unhappy. I never could use firefox stably on Linux. Any cure like disabling extensions and creating new profiles, and following the mozilla hints to stabilize firefox was done, to no avail. Instaed the "would you like to restore the previous session" box made my life more "colorful" Since the last suse build on my 32bit Box, ff could never survive 10 Minutes of surfing the web. I got so frustrated that I for one changed to opera and secondly deleted all the suse firefox stuff and installed the new 2.0.0.3 release directly from mozilla.com. What can I say, now after a full day of surfing the the web with mozillas firefox and another full night of downloading a few GB of downloads (the latter was just for testing, normally I do not use firefox for such things), I am still using the very same incarnation of firefox that I started yesterday! A definitive improvement and much more related to the linux reputation of being rock solidly stable. ;-)) Recommended to anyone having similar problems with firefox. kind regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Recommended to anyone having similar problems with firefox.
What I would recommend is to try a clean profile and a clean RPM installation. I'm pretty sure that this also works. I absolutely doubt that the unstable behaviour was caused by the SUSE package. There are only a few differences to the upstream Firefox (since otherwise it wouldn't be allowed at all to call the package Firefox). Wolfgang Wolfganag,
thanks much for your suggestions. Acutally this was, what I did numerous times. I also created a brand new user, called "firefox" :-)- just to be on the safe side. I do not blame the Suse Package, I think firefox is the culprit. Imho version 2.x was released much to early and it was rather more focused on bugreports and "run previous session" than on stability. Funnily I had stability problems with FF on Linux in multiple computers and multiple distros but never experienced the same with running FF on windows. I am using now the mozilla build with my stoneold original profile (derived from my ff 1.0x times" and a lot of extensions on top of it and it runs ok. regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I haven't had any problems with firefox (32 bit version on an x86_64 computer), and I have been keeping up to date pretty much with the mozilla repository. Could be my browsing habits and places I frequent, but I don't see the firefox problems you have reported. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.2 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Same here. I've installed FF from openSuSE on 3 machines (with 32 bit version of openSUSE 10.2), updated now to 2.02 and all worked fine. Could it be some specific extension / theme? -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, this is what I originally thought. Consequently, I followed thes pages: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs removed extensions by the dozen, worked with noextensions, created another profile, started cleanly...you name it. Never mind: This was just meant for information, in case, some people would have experience similar problems. Now, if Firefox is stably running on everyones' computers, I am happy. I am also (much more!) happy that it now runs stable on my machines. ;-) regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well the problem is with the 64bit version as I recall. Also the 32bit version won't load 64bit java so you gotta install a 32bit java parallel just for Firefox/Mozilla. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Sorry for this comment (it's not my thread), but when read, I noticed not to be the one who plugins don't run on x86_64! I had this problem, and I began to suspect it was mine! Thank you. Alejandro.
