I realize this is probably not a forum where I should be asking for comments as to why I should choose one Linux distribution or another, so could someone direct me to a site where objective comparisons of SuSE and RedHat can be found, so I can decide which is for me.
Actually, I have tried both, and found both to be very easy to install and setup:-) I was very impressed with Redhat's RPM thing and it was pretty easy as far as updates went. Suse's Yast on the other hand makes things a snap as far as setting up the network. But, there are things that I could do easier in RedHat than I can do in Suse, but perhaps that has more to do with "familiarity"? For one thing, it was very easy for me in Redhat to set up a script that would automatically call my provider, get my mail, and send it to the right user. But at that time, I only had one user that actually accessed the internet, but now I have 5 users, and according to what I've read, the Sendmail thing has changed quite a bit. As far as Dos apps goes, I had an easier time in Suse getting them to fire up, but I've still got some "configuration" bugs to work out as far as the displays goes. And some of my vga games which played in Redhat, I have not been able to get to play yet in Suse? (The set up procedure for dosemu in Suse is much simpler than what I had to work with in Redhat). I finally got Wine to run a couple of simple games in Suse (Something that I was never able to do in Redhat). Of course, part of that may be a radical difference between what I was running then and what I am running now. Oh yeah, there is one other thing I almost forgot, My redhat version gave me problems on installation unless I deleted the dos mirror images. And once it was installed, if I didn't like the way it loaded (Redhat) and wanted to reinstall, I had to purge Linux from my system and pretty much start over:-( For now about the only other thing that I had running on Redhat that I haven't gotten around to yet is my tape backups. cya l8r Leon McClatchey leonmcclatchey@homemail.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
