Do you have the package xdevel installed? These are the X development libraries that are needed when you're making a source that relies on X. Look around on your cd's, as I am sure that you have it. Use YaST2 to install it, and then run 'make uninstall' in the directory where you have the mplayer sources. Run './configure' again, and then 'make', and finally 'make install.' Very important also that you have downloaded and installed the codecs! They need to go in /usr/lib/win32. You will need to create this directory, since I don't think that it is created when you run 'make,' although I could be wrong. Can't remember at the moment. Also, make sure that you have put the file codecs.conf, which comes in the tarball, in $HOME/.mplayer Just in case you do have xdevel, the codecs, and codecs.conf installed, try getting mplayer to open a file this way: mplayer -vo x11 somefile And no, I don't think that there is an rpm for mplayer, since I don't think that distribution of a binary is allowed. This is based on something I read a while ago at the mplayer web site, although I could be wrong. Good luck, and let us know how things turn out for you. Kevin

First, there is no RPM that I have heard of. Not really a need since mplayer usually compiles and runs in SuSE quite nicely. Have you done these things (from sections 1.3 and 1.4 of the MPlayer docs): downloaded and extracted the w32 codecs to: /usr/lib/win32 ./configure --enable-gui make make install downloaded and extracted a skin to: /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin or $HOME/.mplayer/Skin to turn on GUI mode, you either 1. use the -gui option 2. specify gui=yes in your config file or 3. ln -s /usr/local/bin/mplayer /usr/local/bin/gmplayer and call gmplayer instead of just mplayer If you have done all this and still cannot get it to work, what errors are you getting? C.
I did not enable gui when I first did the ./configure
but now when I type ./configure --enable-gui it say
that he can't find GTK but if I do a rpm -q -a | grep
gtk .. I see that gtk is installed what are the
package
that I need install to configure and compile mplayer
so far it has been 2 days with no succes..
Thanks for the help

you will need the gtk-devel packages as well as gtk itself. Ewan On Sun, 2002-05-19 at 17:48, MindBender wrote:

Something someone else on the list kindly pointed out to me... it went something like this... if an application needs package foo to run, then you need foo-devel to build the application. Give this a try - install gtk-devel-1.2.10-284 (or whatever version is on the 7.3 disks), and make sure that you also have libpng-devel (also requred to build the MPlayer gui). C.
