I've tried to set up my Speedtouch USB modem using the isntructions at http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/05/configSpeedTouch.html, although with Suse 8.2 and not 8.0. Everything was fine according to the instructions, but now on booting or hotplugging, the modem lights go through the normal sequence until I expect the ADSL light to start flashing (after which both lights go steady and it's ready to connect), and instead the ADSL light goes out. If I try to connect with it in this state, the log from KInternet is: SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.00 on linux. We are disconnected. trying to connect to smpppd connect to smpppd We are disconnected. Interface is . We are connecting. pppd: Plugin pppoatm.so loaded. pppd: PPPoATM plugin_init pppd: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded. pppd: PPPoATM setdevname - remove unwanted options pppd: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38 pppd: Using interface ppp0 pppd: Connect: ppp0 <--> 0.38 Which i presume means that KInternet believes the connection to be a success? (which it isn't) Any ideas?
Owain Is speedmgmt running? You can check with a "ps aux" from a terminal. Best wishes - Ken On Friday 05 December 2003 10:00 am, Owain Sutton wrote:

... "why" doesnt it show to be successful? show us the output of: 'ifconfig' . -- /// Michael J.
