[SLE] SuSe 6.4 on an old 486 - cd not found!
Hello I am trying to install SuSE 6.4 on a 486 PC/33 with 20MB (RAM) and 2 HDs: 210 MB and 1.08 GB (Seagate soft to jump the 540 MB limitation). It has a CD (Creative 1220 E) attached to a Sound Blaster Card 16. I run the boot disk and then the modules disk . I tried all the available modules for cdrom (sbpc etc.) and got nothing. The cd is working pretty well on Windows. I run out of ideas. Can you help me? Thanks a lot. Eduardo PS. I have alos tried Mandrake 7.02.486 and COL 2.4. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I had no trouble installing 5.2 from a sound Blaster CD-ROM. Another solution would be to copy the needed files (A, N packages) to an existing FAT partition and install from there. Then once the basic system is in place set up a network to access the CD-ROM on another machine. I used this method to put linux on a 386-33 with 2 meg of RAM and a 80 meg HD. Unfortunately I couldn't get a SuSE distro to fit and had to use Slack 2.0. ----- Original Message ----- From: mendes <mendes@mgconecta.com.br> To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2000 7:44 AM Subject: [SLE] SuSe 6.4 on an old 486 - cd not found! tried all the available

You cuould pull the hard drive , place in another system , load suse , and put it back. This assumes you can create the proper working system , and select the proper drivers. On a 486 you could save a lot of time this way , especialy if you use a P200 or faster. At 10:29 AM 5/25/2000 -0400, Mike Kenzie wrote:
