I noticed it too when I upgraded to KDE 2.1. It doesn't seem to cause any problems though, and everything works fine. - v -- Victor R. Cardona vcardona@home.com "Behold the keyboard of Kahless, the greatest Klingon code warrior that ever lived!"

Same here, and no, it doesn't seem to cause any problems. I just click on it and it goes away. -- Tom Bishop tb64710@alltel.net RLU #12043 SuSE 7.1 PRO
HI ! Using KDE 2.x like any normal user I have all the SuSE-KDE Icons, but if I log as root it lost the most SuSE-KDE Icons ! How can I recover them ! ? Thanks Also: there any one notice that this version of KDE 2.x is VERY SLOW when the user do a shutdown of KDE !! Is more fast to do a CTRL-ALT-BKSPACE !! any idea ?? bye --ed
I think it is a "feature" that so few icons are available as root. This is to discourage you from logging in as root!! :) CTRL-ALT-BKSPACE will exit immediately from KDE, but you will lose all your settings from the present session. On Thursday 22 March 2001 08:56, Linux News User wrote:

It has caused me problems. After clicking it away or even waiting for it to time-out I cannot execute anything from my desktop or panel bar. The system is frozen until I logout. Then whatever I tried to execute decides to run. Of coarse by then it's to late and I get logged out. It has even hosed me up so bad I couldn't even logout and had to hit the reset button. It doesn't happen every time just most of the time. Sooner or later I think it's gonna byte someone else. regards Mark
I have found that my splash screen locks up occasionally when (for some reason) SuSE's KInternet tool loads _before_ KDE. This seems to be the problem at least for me... -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. It's bit me bad! I made several attempts to install SuSE 7.1 on my Dell Latitude CPi, but the system locked up solid when starting X. I couldn't 'click away' the splash screen (If it got that far...). I couldn't even switch to a normal console, or crash the X server with ctrl-alt-bksp! I had to power the box down. (In one case, I had to pull the battery!) The problem seemed to get more frequent, so I gave up and loaded SuSE 6.4. I'm now running stable, but I haven't worked out a Sound configuration yet... I'll try 7.1 again after I see some more updates appear... I'm a great fan of Linux, and SuSE in particular, but 7.1 has given me my very first total system lockup under Linux... -- Rick Green "I have the heart of a little child, and the brain of a genius. ... and I keep them in a jar under my bed"

The Splash screen problem wasn't there until the kde2.1 update for 7.1 came out. At least I never saw it untill then. Maybe you have another problem? Mark

Probably several. The lockup has occurred at several points. Sometimes, just as X is coming up, when the screen has goon blank, but the cross-hatch pattern hasn't yet appeared. Other times, while the KDE splash screen was showing the 'reloading sessions' message, sometimes while the 'KDE running xx%' was displayed. When I had kdm enabled, it sometimes hung while drawing the login window. The last and final lockup, before I blew it away and loaded 6.4, happened while I was trying to figure out the sound configuration. I was running amixer in a Konsole window, and I found that most of the commands did nothing. The up-down arrows only worked on some of the channels. WHen I slid over to try another channel, it all locked up... -- Rick Green "I have the heart of a little child, and the brain of a genius. ... and I keep them in a jar under my bed"
