[opensuse] Want to add KDE 4.3 to openSUSE 11.1 with existing KDE 3.5.10
Can the kde 4.3 openSUSE Live CD be used to add-on KDE 4.3 on a working openSUSE 11.1 installation (already has GNOME 2.24 & KDE 3.5) ? I do not want to do a fresh openSUSE installation from live cd. The KDE 4.3 Live CD page - (http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/), does not have any information about this. Alternatively, has anyone tried the 1-click install http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSU... to add-on KDE 4.3 to openSUSE 11.1 with already-installed KDE 3.5.10 ? I recall sometime back there was big long-winded discussion about KDE 4.2/higher to add-on to earlier KDE 3.5 series. But no definite yes/no result from there. Which method worked: live CD install or was it 1-click install from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSU... ? I have just downloaded the KDE 4.3 openSUSE Live CD from http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/, but not sure whether it will work or not. There is http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Upgrade and http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/KDE4#Most_Annoying_Bugs.2FTroubleshooting The live CD is for installing openSUSE 11.1 with KDe 4.3 not for updating an existing system. Thanks for the links, the http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Upgrade page makes things clear about upgrading to KDE 4.3. However, I also have KDE 3.5 installed (as mentioned in the OP). In view of this, do I keep the 3 KDE 3.5 repos mentioned at http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories#KDE_3.5.x (ie - KDE Backports, KDE Core Packages and KDE Community) when upgrading to KDE 4.3, because the KDE-Upgrade page says with reference to KDE 3.5 :
If you get a conflict in the upgrade step or if want to use/keep using the KDE3 versions of eg Amarok, Konversation or K3b (now renamed to kde3-<foo>) you need to add the KDE:KDE3 Build Service repository.
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.1/ kde3 zypper mr -r -p 10 kde3
So, is KDE:KDE3 Build Service repo to be added to the above 3 KDE 3.5 repos or is the Build Service repo the only repo to be enabled ?
