[opensuse] Convert Yarn/2 Folders to mbox???
I see that a number of denizens on this list are former OS/2 or eCS users. I finally gave up on that platform in mid-2007 (in favour of what is now openSUSE) since it was becoming too much of a struggle to keep eCS apace with the possible. I have of course been able to transfer the 15 years' of work files that were on the OS/2 system into openSUSE, but with one exception. That exception is the accumulation of emails across many years in Yarn/2, which I still need to consult from time to time. To a degree, this situation would have been eased if I'd been able to get OS/2 up and running in a virtual machine under openSUSE. But, despite many attempts and much frustration, I have not been able to get any of the OS/2 flavours to work satisfactorily as a VirtualBox guest in an openSUSE host. That includes eCS 2.0 and the latest editions of VBox. In consequence I've kept an older computer in a sufficient operational condition to run eCS 1.2 for occasional forays into the Yarn/2 email archives when needed, which is clumsy, but at least it has worked so far. But it won't work forever. Against that day, what I'd like to do is convert the contents of archived Yarn/2 mail folders into mbox format so I can then import them into Thunderbird or other mailer running on openSUSE (currently 12.1). I've googled all over the place, and this has yielded only a small handful of relevant returns, none of which has led to anything useful. I'd be very grateful therefore if some ex-OS/2 guru - or anyone else - could help me with achieving this Yarn/2 => unix conversion. Thank you. I cannot help you with yarn conversion but have seen that OS/2 seems to be compatible with the free (as free beer) vmware player. http://241931348f64b1d1.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/os2-warp-v4-52-on-vmware-pl... I use on one 12.1 machine both vbox and vmware player 4 it is no issue to have both installed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you. But as you might have seen elsewhere, I finally found the means to convert yarn/2 stuff to mbox ... Robin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
The page http://www.vex.net/~x/rexxbells.phtml has some rexx tools. Maybe you could write a rexx script to dump your yarn/2 stuff into a text file. A links leads to http://www.vex.net/~x/archive.py/yarn2any.zip ... Likewise, with the second script above, you can convert a Yarn folder into importable Email. (I think there's probably already utils to do this, but here's another hacky one!) ... Thank you. I'd seen though not tried some of those scripts before. The yarn2any scripts seemed the most promising, so I tried them. It turns out that what they do is limited to creating a format that can then be re-imported into Yarn - ie they do not export to formats usable in other email platforms. Thus the output of f2mail.cmd run on an uncorrupted Yarn mail "folder" was simply an identical Yarn mail "folder" with a changed name. Nice try, and thank you again, but on looking further I found this: http://compgroups.net/comp.mail.misc/convert-PC-Yarn-mail-files-to-mbox-form... and the final message looked interesting so I downloaded the referenced ytmbox.c and compiled it - and it works.
