IŽm little bit of a newbie on Linux so please donŽt flame me. I have tried to get wvdial-1.0 to work. In the README file it says that i need GCC 2.7.2 or higher.. I have SuSE 5.3 with 2.7.2.1. But when i type make it says that it canŽt find G++. ArenŽt it suppose to be installed with the gcc packet? I find it in the man pages. IŽm i stupid or what? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Install gpp and libgpp When you build gcc/egcs from scratch, gcc, objc, gpp, etc compilers all get built and installed. S.u.S.E. makes seperate binary rpms for each, so if you just installed gcc you're missing stuff. Mikael Olsson wrote:

Hello all Im trying to configure my ppp for dialup to my isp following the manual Im using yast...pg269 suse 5.3 select modem ppp I get an error saying it needs suseppp I do a serch packages and it dosent come up with the missing file I've checked the kernel and apparently *all* networking already says Y ummmm any suggestions? thanks rob - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I don't have my 5.3 yet, but if it's like my 5.2, then for some reason suseppp isn't installed automagically. You need to fire up yast and install suseppp, it's located in the 'n' packages (I think). I never got suseppp for 5.2 to work for me, but maybe 5.3 has it fixed. I recommend setting up your scripts by hand. It really is a matter of cutting and pasting the relevent portions of the PPP-Howto in to the right files, editing them for your ISP and setting the right permissions on files like /sbin/pppd, /dev/ttyS?, etc. There have been a bunch of threads on this very topic over the last few weeks. Of notable mention is wvdial which appears to have worked well for many. I cannot attest to its ease of dialup setup, but you might want to search through the SuSE mailing list archives... Yes well... I cant understand WHY this isnt included! Setting up ppp dial up with rh was trivialim not at all crazy about compliing script wich should easily be included in the distrib My real question is... following the manual... Im comming to a dead end yast tells me I need a file...suseppp do a search... where is it and why wasnt it installed in the first place if I selected a full network configuration. This isnt too reassuring for future settting up of the network - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

In my directory tree, suseppp is /file/etc/suseppp It is a directory, not a file. Hope this helps. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Oops. Never try to read late at night. That should have said /etc/suseppp The word "file:" is default and I should have known better. Still probably not getting you there. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I can attest to wvdial. It is fantastic, but you must first NOT install any diald. If you allow dial on demand you will cut off the connection that wvdial has made. <A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca"><A HREF="http://www.worldvisions.ca</A">http://www.worldvisions.ca</A</A>> Read back over the threads, indeed. It has been a lengthy study on my part, for sure. On Sun, 06 Sep 1998, you wrote:

KDE is a window manager that loads on X. If X is runing, use you left mouse button to click on any blank area of the desktop, choose "other....", then KDE. KDE has a very slick app. called KPP. You can be dialing out in less than a min...NO scripts to worry about. Fred -- - Windows 98 supports real multitasking - it can boot and crash simultaneously - Fred A. And so much stuff..... I found the suseppp on cd2 installed and im about to be sending my first mail Thanks for the tip Fred rob - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

'Glad to do it. I'm new to Linux as well....have had it running a tad over 2 months, and it's NOT crashed once. NT would have crashed AT LEAST a half-doz. times by now! It's the finest OS I've ever used on a PC, and SuSE has the best distribution, without question. There's MUCH they still need to do, but it's the best.
