Dear folks: I have backuped some of my data on CDs using K3B burner application. When I checked the burned CD I realized that the dates of directories were modified to the actual date when I burned the CD. For a decent backup it is important - at least for me - to have the original dates in the backup. To check the origin of the problem I've created an iso image by mkisofs and found that in this iso image the directory dates were NOT altered. So it seems that K3b is the culprit. The only thing I don't know if this is a bug or this behavior depends on a (hidden) setting. Does anyone have similar problem? Normally, a copy in Linux (cp) changes the date & ownership. With the cp command, you can use flags to change that behaviour. I don't know if such an option is available in k3b. Generally, you should be using a proper backup program, such as tar, to retain the file specs. As I recall, there are backup programs available, that are designed to work with CDs.
