Thanks to someone of the list I'm installing the GAIM 0.64 if I'm not wrong, and after many many hours (I don't know why is still so difficult for me to install something in linux) I did it, to find out that the font has the same trouble as evolution, it's based on the GTK-html "thing". In many how-to and other documents, people say that changing the font size in the gnomecc can fix it, and I tried but I get the following error "ORBit-WARNING **: Request notify, ID -1073746912 was rejected by the authentication mechanism!" Can someone explain to me whats's this? and how can I do to fix my fonts? In the case that I try to use gnome-control-center, it works while I have that window open. It also change my background to the bluecurve background and don't let me anymore use my desktop. Anyone??? Thanks in advance Juan C.

If you get GAIM 0.64.0 from usr-local-bin.org and Evolution 1.4 from the same site then they are compiled using GTK2 and Gnome2 libraries. This means that gnomecc (which is the control centre for Gnome1) don't control the look and feel for these apps. The control application you want is for Gnome2 which is located in /opt/gnome2/bin and is called gnome-control-center. I've used this to control the look and feel of Gnome2 apps. I also use QtCurve as my general theme. This theme is built for Gnome1, Gnome2 and KDE3 so that apps all share common look and feel such as fonts, colours and what not. You can also use Geramik which does the same thing but matchs everything to look like Keramik as far as GTK 1&2 apps are concerned. These themes take their hints from KDE. Don't know if this helps you. But it's how I have it working and everything looks very nice. -- Ben Rosenberg *********************** mailto:ben@whack.org The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in the opposite direction.
I have a similar problem with fonts. I use KDE mainly and have noticed the fonts to programs such as synaptic, gxine and gkrellm (menu admin type fonts) are rather large so I used /opt/gnome2/bin/gnome-control-center to alter them. However the setting does not hold after I log out then back in, they revert back to the larger original fonts. Any hints on how to retain those setttings? If I go back into gnome-control-center they stay fine for the session only. Nev Ben Rosenberg wrote:

Nev, Have you tried logging into Gnome2 GUI and setting those things from the control center there? It may be that setting them from the KDE side is only done temporarily rather than permanently. Ben - thank you so very much for this info!!! I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. My evolution 1.4 runs really choppy...to a point where I've switched to Kmail at home and won't even install it at the office. I'm hoping this will fix the problem. Thanks!!!
