If you have reiser as your file system:
reiserfsck --check /dev/hda (the partition you want to check)
The output will tell you if you should run any of the commands:
reiserfsck --rebuild-tree
reiserfsck --fix-fixable
reiserfsck --rebuild-sb

I have various file systems(partitions) on my hard disk and i want to chek those file systems.
Note that *fsck* tools check filesystem consistency, they do not search for bad sectors. If you want to check the disk for bad sectors then use badblocks (from e2fsprogs*.rpm). -- A.M.
Does the fsck tool apply for all the available file systems? ext2, ext3,
reiserfs?

Ok, what about ext2?
Which filesystem is more fixable, reliable during forcable reboots, or
electricity problems?

You can see what filesystem you have for your partitions in /etc/fstab. For reiser the command is reiserfsck for ext3 it is fsck.

Pen and paper. Look, there are scads of articles on the web about this. Google is your friend. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Yes, but fsck is a front end only. Programs which do the job are: $ cd /sbin; ls fsck.* fsck.cramfs fsck.ext3 fsck.minix fsck.reiserfs fsck.xfs fsck.ext2 fsck.jfs fsck.msdos fsck.vfat Note that reiserfsck and fsck.reiserfs are just different names of the same file. "cd /sbin; ls -i *fsck*" will tell you which files are the same. -- A.M.

You are correct, but these days you can save yourself some trouble by running e2fsck with the -c option (it will run badblocks for you). Of course this is only for ext2 and ext3 (with a recent enough e2fsprogs). On the other hand, handling badblocks in Reiserfs is a total nightmare.
