[opensuse] Boot questions
Hi Listmates, I have some questions about grub since I tried to use another partition as rootpartition. I have a separate bootpartition on hd0,2 There are 2 possible rootpartions hd0,4 and hd0,5 (sdb5,sdb6) hd,04 is used. My menu.lst :
default 0 timeout 3 ##YaST - generic_mbr gfxmenu (hd0,2)/message ##YaST - activate

Question 1: How can grub find the kernel /vmlinuz.... while it is in /boot/vmlinuz.... Question 2: Where is the pointer to the rootpartition, how can I tell grub use sdb6 or use sdb7 while vmlinuz-... is on the bootpartition ? The declaration "root (hd0,2)" points to your "boot" partition if it is on a disk other than that of "/".
Question 2: Where is the pointer to the rootpartition, how can I tell grub use sdb6 or use sdb7 while vmlinuz-... is on the bootpartition ?
In the line " kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop showopts apm=off noresume edd=off powersaved=off nohz=off highres=off processor.max_cstate=1 x11failsafe vga=0x345" add root=/dev/<number> or root=UUID=<UUID no.> This will tell grub the disk partition for the "/".
